Names: Dionysus (Greek) or Bacchus (Roman)
Attributes: god of wine-making, ritual madness, fertility, theatre and religious ecstasy
Keats uses the imagery of Bacchus, the god of revelry and wine-making, to speak of escaping his world. But instead of joining Bacchus, he will now use poetry as a means of escape. Poetry, can help him escape the pains of the world he lives in and fly alongside the Nightingale to a better place.
